Information for Speakers
Share your expertise with the EduTalks audience and support ongoing professional education in South Africa and beyond.
Why present on EduTalks?
EduTalks builds on South Africa’s strong history of medical academia by giving experts a digital platform to share knowledge with healthcare professionals and students.
We invite you to record your next lecture or presentation with EduTalks – either live, or before/after your event. Your slides (PowerPoint or Keynote) are combined with your voice-over and then uploaded as a secure video that can be streamed by registered users.
Content cannot be downloaded or saved. Users are only able to stream your talk from the EduTalks platform, helping to protect your intellectual property and the integrity of your material.
How talks are recorded and hosted
- You present using your usual slide format (PowerPoint or Keynote).
- We record your slides together with your voice-over.
- The final product is uploaded as a video on EduTalks.
- Users can stream the talk on-demand but cannot download the file.
Honoraria for speakers
Over time, speakers and their societies or institutions (where relevant) can benefit from honoraria that come from carefully selected advertising linked to the EduTalks platform.
To avoid conflicts of interest, commercial entities and products are not directly linked to individual speakers or their institutions. All local and international advertising and marketing codes are followed strictly.
CPD for speakers
EduTalks has CPD accreditor status through SAMA. Speakers are entitled to earn 3 CPD points for every talk delivered, in line with rule “r” of the HPCSA rules for CPD.
If you are registered as an EduTalks user, these 3 CPD points will be assigned automatically to your CPD account after your talk is uploaded and accredited.
If you are not yet registered on EduTalks, you can still obtain your CPD certificate by requesting it from the EduTalks team at info@medtalkz.com.
Copyright and intellectual property
We know copyright is a key concern for presenters. Your intellectual property remains yours at all times, even if an honorarium is paid. EduTalks:
- Hosts and stores your content securely.
- Ensures that users cannot download, store or save your talk.
- Streams your content directly from the platform to help prevent plagiarism.
To make sure that the rights of third parties are also respected, EduTalks consulted Werksmans Attorneys (a South African law firm with specialist copyright expertise) on how presenters may include third-party material in their talks.
In summary:
- You may use someone else’s material in your talk to illustrate a point, but you should not use more than is necessary to make that point.
- You must clearly state the source and, where possible, reference the original author or publisher.
